The real proposal By: Zev Goldberg

        I.            When you picture a penny; what do you picture in your mind? A lump of worthless metal, Abraham Lincoln, something so expendable that a homeless man wouldn’t even pick it up. Yet you could say the same thing in the perspective of a 1930`s millionaire businessman about his workers; how they are expendable and will be soon less than worthless, due to the over supple of them all.

In my story we see the main character whom sees how under appreciated something could be (a penny), and then compares it to someone being treated much the same way: that something, which you could overlook and never regret looking back at. He has recently left college with his bachelor’s degree; in business, and later lost his job being a Pipeline Technician. Then he started losing his place in the world and…If I say any more I would give away the entire story.

But in context the other portion of background on where I got the idea for the “penny killer”. Well it all began one day when I was walking around with my dad, down town (I recently had gotten an interest in forensics at this point, just as a side note) and we see this man walking around with this bag full of pennies so large that you could feel gravity getting stronger by its mere presents near you. While we continued to walk we saw a jagged scar across the bag that, seemed to flap around from it poor sewing. Then (all of a sudden) the bag ruptured open, and it was revealed that pennies were in the bag, along with other assorted coins. As we saw this avalanche of coins pour out, a series of can only be assumed homeless men crowded the puddle of pennies, with necks of nickel’s, followed by deltas of dimes. This was soon followed by a unsettling silence in which no one dared even quiver, then followed up by a stampede of worn out shoes and coughs of acceleration. But instead of grabbing everything in sight, the specifically avoided all pennies; for it was this bizarre level of movement of being rushed, yet still taking your time enough to not get near a mere penny. By the time the man finally heard the noise he tried everything he could do to get what was his. But it was all for not, he was shoved away enough times that they grabbed all the were there to grab, yet you could still see this mere pile of pennies, as if they were scared to touch it, and that’s where I got the idea.

The topic of being something more, something greater is something we all wish to get, and to be. So I just want to ensure that, in this unusual way we will never lose sight of that, and my hope is that due to this story being so unusual; it will be remembered better than if it were to be a mere standard high school project.

II.            A. What made some of the worst of the worst, people in the world (like Ted Bundy) make them become so likable and relatable. Those readers/viewers are actually routing for this person to carry on, and murder another person. I know that one part is having our main character compared to a greater evil, making him the lesser of two evils.

I will need to explore more stories concerning people going into a level of *special* insanity followed by killing (ted Bundy), how to design unusual ways of murder devices, and all the while making him likable with a simultaneous motivation relatable.

Who has the most connections to the previous topics in my previous statements? Also how can I spin my questions to be the most direct to ensure accuracy is kept, in context to maintaining the story to be tolerable?

B. By infusing interviews of John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson, Green river killer, Toolbox killer, and (again) Ted Bundy. Then seeing any to all similarities and differences connecting them all, and seeing what made them either so “evil” or so “put in a bad situation”.

1.  I will be starting with “Manson” (a book on Charles Manson), this book takes a look at how you would control people to the point that Charles did. Also it displays how a smart person, put in a bad situation, then followed by being put in the center of power shifts: This will show the journey to make everything just the way you want, and make the other person feel like they are making the decisions themselves.

2. My father. Because he has had 20 years experience having to spin a story and having to make the call; on what can we say while stating what we should do.

C. It will be a new understanding on what the human values really are, and would we believe first; most of the truth or an entire like. Also what would we spot first as well?

1.      How far people really are willing to go for, if incentive is on the line, what would happen if you lose control over yourself; whom would control you?
2.      A story with a not so subtle message of manipulation and power shifts over time. With everything falling apart under your feet.

III.            My topic is viable because it shows the human spirit, in its cut, and suppressed form attempting to survive in a world that does not forgive mistake. However taking a very extreme approach at a way to surpass what will soon become of him. Being not a liberator or even a savior but someone that shows people are more than just generic faces in a crowd, they are a species that has surpassed practically everyone’s expectations. That should never be forgotten.

Proposal Commentary By: Zev Goldberg

You could say my character in the story is basically bat man; for he takes a metaphor/idiom so literally (control and become your fear), that he becomes a Bat-Man. So yeah I took that type of angle in this proposal if you noticed.

He also has a robin hood/fight club theme to it, in that he is basically saying everyone is special, and no one deserves to be stepped on.

If you are curious if I will make a pun regarding “a dime a dozen”, especially because it really does not make sense.

Also yes I do have an obvious metaphor in regards to the one person whom sees what’s special in the people whom derive more, and we are to follow him so we can get more. So a sort of liberator I suppose you could spin it to say.

Now you may ask what a business degree connects to a Pipeline Technician, well I actually checked that is the degree you do in fact need, I am not joking.

Now if you are wondering why we didn’t help him, well we were a solid thirty plus feet away so, yeah we were in little ability to assist. Besides we needed to go to a place, and I had been for years wanting to write a story about the penny killer (as a title) but I never really got much farther than the idea stage.

I promise this story sounded better in my head, in most contexts though the concept does sound really bad for a school assignment.

Don’t worry any cliches I put in this story will be spun in a way to add something new to the formula, so as to ensure the story wont be that bad.

A fair bit is in fact manipulation at its finest.

Yes the Mil-gram is similar from a lot of stand points.

I do feel as though this story will be forgotten.

Proposal addendum-
So this might be unclear on what this was to be all about; well here is the explanation of what it is about. To begin with, when I mentioned these men they are in fact serial killers, but what I was trying to convey is what were the steps taken that lead these men to be as infamous as they are, so I designed a character with serial killer style qualities whom believes the most unappreciated things in this world are in fact the most important of them all. That`s why he uses pennies; what are so notoriously disliked for for its impracticality. But when you get enough of them you can make something that could make something special, you see where I am going with this, so I apologize for the over use of the mention of serial killers but that was originally meant to be an underlying matter. But I had rewritten the story in an assortment of ways so the proposal you see was written in the older version of the stories current focus. I will also be writing a version of this with time travel to have a new variation on the topic, a bit of a "what if?" type of story.

  1. Im not sure what your project is. Is it research on these men? Or is it a story about a serial killer?
